United Way free tax filing service to begin accepting returns

United Way of Erie County will offer free tax filing services beginning Monday for Erie County residents who earned $57,000 or less in 2020.
Returns will be submitted to the Internal Revenue Service once it begins accepting returns on Feb. 12.
The IRS expects to begin issuing refunds the first week in March.
The United Way Free Taxes Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers drop-off service and in-person service at 14 sites in Erie County, including four new sites, at East Middle School in Erie, Corry Industrial Center, Corry Federal Credit Union and American Legion Post 237 in Union City.
The free service includes filing for the Earned Income Tax Credit for those eligible.

Masks and social distancing will be required at the tax preparation sites.
A free online tax filing option, MyFreeTaxes.com, is available to those who wish to complete their own federal and state tax returns online. The online service is available to everyone, regardless of income.
