Alabama Revenue Department Releases Tax Refund App

The Internal Revenue Service began accepting 2020 tax returns on Feb. 12, but things might be a little backed up this year.

Typically, the IRS begins accepting returns in the second half of January, but delays were made this year because of the second round of economic relief payments that went out late last year.

JamesonMoneyFarmer Tax Manager Lauren Roberts said you shouldn’t expect your return as quick as in years past.

“The IRS is very backed up right now,” said Roberts. “They have loads of mail they’re still going through from last year.”

You can track your refund in Alabama via the Alabama Department of Revenue, or you can check your federal refund via IRS.gov or the IRS2GoApp for smartphones.

Roberts said it’s important to remember if you got jobless benefits last year and didn’t have federal tax withheld from the payments, you might owe extra on your taxes.
